課堂經歷
In this one-time arts class, students will learn to make a small mini-comic booklet through folding a single sheet of paper and making one small cut. They'll then be able to use this skill to create a small folded booklet onto which they can draw. We'll go step-by-step through the folding process together, where students will engage in learning by listening to and watching me fold a single sheet of paper into an 8-page booklet. After that, we'll brainstorm and discuss ideas for topics and storylines together, experiment with different drawing techniques including penciling and inking, I'll introduce learners to some of the tools (pencils, microns, tombow markers, etc.) I use in my own comics, and each student will have started their very own 8-page minicomic by the end of the class. We'll talk about the different vocabulary of comics -- panels, panel borders, word balloons, etc.--as we draw together. Learners will be encouraged to use their imaginations for the topic or subject of their mini-comic! Learners are welcome to take this class more than once -- especially if they found the folding part challenging (some learners find this the most challenging part of the class) or would like to have a chance to draw with other learners in a supportive, sharing environment. My teaching style has been described as enthusiastic and supportive. I teach using examples held up to the camera rather than through slides, and learners will be encouraged to work at whatever pace they feel most comfortable. There is no requirement to complete a comic by the end of our class time, and while learners are encouraged to share what they're drawing if they would like, they are not required to do so.
學習目標
Students will learn how to fold paper to create an 8-page minicomic (math and spatial skills), brainstorming about story ideas, how to organize and plan a specific story, and some introductory tips about penciling, inking, and coloring. Learners will be able to use whatever arts materials they would like. Any size of paper works, though I use an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of copier/printer paper in my instruction.

Students will need: 5-10 sheets of paper (8.5 x 11 or A4 white copy paper works best, but any size paper can work) scissors (there is one cut during the folding process) drawing materials of their choice (pencil, pen, marker, eraser, crayons, colored pencils, etc.)
