課堂經歷
During this class learners will learn how to make their own version of the Roman board game Rota. As we get crafting, we will learn a little bit about the Romans who played the game and the people who discovered it. We'll learn a little about the word ROTA and its relationship to contemporary words. We will be using a little maths for measuring and drawing circles and of course our design skills to decorate our creations. There will be opportunities to put learners' writing skills to use if students would like to write out their own instructions for game play or they can decorate the handout available. Learners will find out a little about the types of board games found in history and how they have influenced games we still play now. This class will be relaxed and fun with plenty of opportunity to express individual creativity, ask questions and explore ideas.

Learners will be able to practise communication and listening skills as they follow instructions. They will learn about the history of the Roman game ROTA and how to play it. Learners should finish the session with a game they have made that they can play with other friends or family. They will have learnt a little bit of history about the Romans, practised a little maths skills of measuring, estimation, drawing and dividing circles. They will have the opportunity to practise a little literacy work, reading and writing the games instructions. As always with my classes there will be plenty of design work, creating patterns and decorations, practising using rulers and scissors etc. And most importantly I'd hope young people have fun and feel that they have been successful.其他詳情

Parents and Adult helpers should make sure that they feel the materials are suitable for their particular learners needs and abilities and offer assistance if the young person is struggling. Items such as scissors, glue and small tokens used for counters should be child safe and suitable for each learner's abilities. I always feel it's best to let a learner try to use equipment or materials perhaps with additional support and encouragement before doing any actions for them. However, each adult must do what they feel is appropriate for the young person they are supporting. I'm happy to offer any advice as to how to support any specific needs or problems.

Learners will need: A square of Cardboard not smaller than 20cms by 20cms ( It gets difficult to work on too small squares) Any kind of card will be fine, craft card, cereal box style, corrugated packaging type. Paper - Plain or coloured Gluestick, Pencil & eraser, Scissors, 30cm ruler. A plate etc to draw around that fits inside the square. And a smaller circle such as a 2p coin or bottle lid to draw the smaller circles or a drawing compass if you’d prefer. 2 sets of 3 small objects To use as counters such as pebbles, buttons, bottle caps, beads, small blocks, coins etc. They need to be 3 of a kind grouped by colour/size pattern/type etc. Coloured pens/pencils/crayons/stickers/tape etc to decorate - whatever you'd like to use to decorate your game board. Optional extra - small box or container to keep your playing pieces and rules in
