Monday- Thursday 6:00am-9:00pm CST
Friday 6:00am-3:00pm CST

Agricultural education prepares students for successful careers and a lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture, food, fiber and natural resources systems. This course is a systematic program of instruction available to students desiring to learn about the science, business, technology of plant and animal production and/or about the environmental and natural resources systems.

Weeks 1 & 2

Overview of the livestock industry

- Domestication and importance of livestock
- Career opportunities in animal science 
- Safety in livestock production
- Livestock and the environment

Weeks 3 & 4

Anatomy, physiology, feeding and nutrition

- Anatomy, physiology and the absorption of nutrients 
- Feed Nutrients 
- Feed additives and hormone implants 
- balancing rations

Week 5

Animal breeding

- Genetics of animal breeding 
- Animal reproduction
- Biotechnology in livestock production
- Animal breeding systems 
 
Week 6 & 7

Beef cattle 

- Breeds 
- Selection and judging of beef 
- Feeding and management of a cow/calf herd and feeder cattle 
- Diseases and parasites 
- Housing and equipment 
- Marketing 

Week 8 

Swine 

- Breeds 
- Selection and judging of swine 
- Feeding and management of swine 
- Diseases and parasites 
- Housing and equipment
- Marketing  

Week 9 

Sheep and goats 

- Selection of sheep 
- Feeding, management and housing of sheep
- Selection, feeding and management of goats 
- Diseases and parasites of sheep and goats

Alternative animals 


Students will be encouraged to interact with the teacher and other classmates. 

This course will be "Lecture style", and the teacher will ask questions through the lesson. 

There will be either verbal or online platform quizzes, weekly homework/activities, etc.

I have worked with both livestock and companion animals in the workplace as well as managing a herd of registered Charolais and Red Angus cattle. I have a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education- Biological sciences and I am currently obtaining a masters degree in veterinary clinical care.
