This Ongoing class is ideal for students who... *want to try Latin but aren't sure if they want to commit to a full, fast-paced class *have taken some Latin but want to go back to basics and review *want to improve their Latin reading abilities *are preparing to enter a more formal, grammar-based course but want to read some Latin beforehand *love the Lingua Latina curriculum and just want to read more of it! In this class we do just what the title says - we READ (and translate into English) the Lingua Latina textbook Here's the link to the required textbook: https://www.amazon.com/Lingua-Latina-Illustrata-Pars-Familia-dp-1585104205/dp/1585104205/ref=mt_other?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid= I will explain grammatical topics and new vocabulary as needed, but since this teaches Latin through an immersion/inductive reading method, the goal is for students to learn Latin THROUGH Latin. We use pictures and synonyms to build our Latin repertoire each week. Class is conducted in English, but the textbook itself is entirely written in Latin! With content building week to week, the schedule below may therefore be adjusted slightly to accommodate the unique learners in each section. Students who are completely new to Latin should plan on joining the class during Chapter 1; students with some previous experience in Latin might find they can join at a later date and easily catch up. February 2025 - Chapter 1 March 2025 - Chapter 2 April 2025 - Chapter 3

This textbook uses "hitting" to teach the relationship between subject-verb-direct object. I always emphasize which character was in the wrong (the one who hits! for any reason!) and how we could handle the situation differently if ever confronted with something like this in real life.

Hello! I’m Larissa Laver and I’ve been teaching since 2008. I’ve worked with young children through young adults over the years: I have taught Pre-K through collegiate level courses and literally every grade in between at some point in my career. I mainly have taught Latin language from elementary through advanced levels, and occasionally teach Ancient Greek as well. I also teach Ancient Greek and Roman History courses, Classical Mythology, and the Homeric Epics. I have traveled extensively in Greece and Italy, and what I learned on those adventures often finds its way into my lessons.
I consider myself a lifelong learner and am always digging deeper to discover more about the world we live in, its history, peoples, languages, religions, cuisines, and more! I also love when my students challenge me with their amazing questions and observations. I spend much time reading and researching in the hopes of being a better citizen of the world and educator.
When I'm not engaged in academic pursuits, I spend my time with my amazing husband. Together we love to travel, play tennis, and hang out with our pet chickens! When I'm on my own, I love kickboxing, yoga (sometimes outside with the chickens!), and gardening (also with the chickens).評論
