Is your child enjoying reading? This class will continue to spark the joy of reading in each learner. Lessons are structured around activities that will meet each child's individual level. My teaching style encourages confidence in readers through interactive games, read alouds (using the classic Beatrix Potter stories - no purchase necessary) and creating written sentence puzzles. This class will include a review of foundational phonics (from previous levels 1-8), blends, digraphs, vowel teams, Heart Words, vocabulary, decoding multisyllabic words, and recognizing word chunk patterns. I look forward to continuing with my learners and helping each one become a more fluent reader!
Week 1: "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" - vowel rule review, heart words, board games, sentence puzzles, read aloud,
vocabulary , compound words, contractions, suffixes and multi-syllabic words
Week 2: "The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin" - digraphs, blends, vowel teams, heart words, board games, sentence puzzles, read
aloud, multi-syllabic words and vocabulary
Week 3: "The Tale of Benjamin Bunny" - digraphs, blends, vowel teams, heart words, board games, sentence puzzles,
read aloud, multi-syllabic words and vocabulary
Week 4: "The Tale of Two Bad Mice" - digraphs, blends, vowel teams, heart words, board games, sentence puzzles,

Hello! My name is Mrs. Theresa Howard. I am a certified teacher with 25 years of experience in the classroom (K-6). My endorsements include Early Childhood, Reading and ELL (English as a Second Language). My professional background includes classroom teaching grades 1-3, several years as an elementary principal and helping over 100 Outschool learners from around the world become more confident and fluent readers. I am most passionate about helping children build a strong phonics foundation. It is my joy to teach children how to read and to share my love of reading. I implement fun strategies to provide lessons that motivate students to become more fluent readers. My philosophy in teaching is to meet learners where they are and to celebrate their successes each step of the way.
