When students learn to read, they usually begin with CVC (consonant, vowel consonant) words. So, what is CVCe? CVCe are words that contain a consonant, vowel, consonant, and then the letter e. The “e” is silent when vowel between the two consonants. As a result, it becomes a long vowel. In this interactive course, learners will review short vowel sounds (CVC words). Then, learners will be introduced to the magic e rule and practice how to read CVCe words. They will learn how to blend sounds to read consonant, long vowel, consonant, silent e words (CVCE). Research suggests that blending is a crucial phonemic awareness skill that should be taught as part of a research-based approach to the teaching of reading. Blending is the skill of joining individual speech sounds (phonemes) together to make a word.   Students will learn the concepts of print where they will gain the knowledge and understanding that print carries meaning like how books contain letters and words. This class will help students transition from phonics to fluency as they learn long vowels, digraphs and how to decode words. 

Having your child in this *small sized class* gives each learner a lot of opportunities to speak. Thus, increasing their socialization skills. To promote team building, will read together as a group, but also read individually. The class is structured around the “I Do, We Do, You Do” approach. I will improve your child’s phonemic (sound) awareness as beginning readers. Effective phonics instruction is important because letter-sound association is the foundation and paramount to building up reading and writing abilities. My ten years of phonics instruction experience teaches students to how to decode letters into their respective sounds. It’s a skill that is essential for them to read unfamiliar words by themselves. Thus, having letter-sound knowledge will allow your child to make the link between the unfamiliar print words to their spoken knowledge. The writing aspect of this course will develop better eye-hand coordination.

This is a reading program for emergent or struggling readers. This course covers letter sounds, vowels, blending reading strategies and sensory writing. Both fine motor activities and gross motor activities are simultaneously included to improve these areas. By using a combination of 2D, 3D, digital props, short videos and songs, my class enhances learning and will keep each student fully engaged. By the end of this course, your child have the necessary skills needed to succeed in this "moving, grooving and learning" type course!

Prior to taking this course, students should have some background knowledge on letters and their sounds. However, they do not need to have a mastery level of the letters and sounds before taking this class. Each week will consist of:-
Week 1 & 2: long a
Week 3 & 4: long e
Week 5 & 6: long i
Week 7 & 8: long o
Week 9 & 10: long u

A greeting, warm-up/ welcome movement song to promote gross motor skills and collectively singing songs.

📖 Tuesdays- A review of letter sounds and CVC words. We’ll then implement reading strategies to blend CVCe words (long vowels), write it and play interactive educational games.  

✍ Wednesdays- Echo reading technique, sight word of the week, sensory writing and learn how to build complete sentences through interactive activities.
	
🎤 Thursdays- Each student gets an opportunity to share during our Show and Tell show using the sight word of the week to promote effective oral communication skills. Students will bring two/three objects or pictures to present. They will dictate complete sentences using the sight word of the week as a means of reviewing. We shall also recap the concepts taught earlier in the week.

End of each class: Test your knowledge games, “turn, talk, pair, share” and a goodbye song.

✔️Magic “e” wand. 
(Write the letter “e” on a small piece of paper and stick it on the tip of a ruler, popsicle stick or anything similar.)

✔️Sensory, squishy bag for sensory writing Wednesday’s. 
(In a large Ziploc bag, pour hair gel (fill a quarter of the bag). If the gel is clear in color, add a few drops of food coloring. Mix it, squeeze out the air to seal the bag and flatten it out ensuring the gel spreads around the whole bag. Add tape on top of the whole bag to give it an extra seal. Alternative: Fill a quarter of a large Ziploc bag with ONE of the following (rice, sugar, beans, sand, salt, sprinkles, shaving cream or anything similar). Feel free to make different sensory bags so they have a choice for each week!
