每週 1 小時. Students are encouraged to complete some research outside of class, particularly by exploring one World War II letter of their choosing. They will have the opportunity to share their letter in week 6 of class. This research can be conducted in whatever way works best for each individual family. For some, sources can be found at local libraries. The internet is also a source that yields many results when looking for World War II letters. If you need assistance locating World War II letters, please feel free to reach out to the teacher at any time.我們無法翻譯此文,請刷新頁面並再試一次。

Welcome to Letter's Home. This class will explore the second World War, through soldiers who lived it. Each week, learners will be presented with one letter written by a soldier during the second World War. Through that letter, learners will follow the course of a soldier during the war, learn about famous battles, and learn about what happened to the soldier after they wrote the letter. The course will be presented with the help of a powerpoint presentation. While the class does include a lecture-based discussion, plenty of time is left for students to discuss the soldier's letter, ask questions, and engage with the class content. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to read and research a WWII letter of their own. In Week 6, learners will be invited to present what they have learned from their assigned letter. The letters discussed will be as follows: Week 1: Carroll Sammetinger letter. -Carroll was in a German POW camp by 1944, and wrote a holiday letter to his family back home. -This lesson will use Carroll's letter to look into the lives of Allied POWs who spent time in German prison camps. Week 2: Paul W's Letter - Paul had been born in Berlin in 1904, and was conscripted into the German Army in 1943. -This lesson will use Paul's letter to examine the experience of German conscripts during World War II Week 3: Letters of Louise Pikovsky -This lesson will utilize the writings of Louise Pikovsky to look at the plight of Jewish families in France who suffered as a result of Nazi occupation. -Note: This lesson will discuss the Holocaust, as Pikovsky's family was ultimately deported to one of the Nazi government's many concentration camps. Week 4: Henry G, Rieth Letter -Henry was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. -Through his letter, the instructor will facilitate a discussion on the attack at Pearl Harbor. Week 5: Letters of Albert Shore -Albert Shore served in a Royal Tank Regiment during World War II. -Through his letters, class will explore the experience of tank crewmen in the European Theater of World War II Week 6: Letters of Fred Millem -Fred Millem was a part of the British Burma Battalion. -Using Fred's letters, this final lesson will examine the experiences of soldiers that fought in the Pacific Theater of the war. -Student Letter Presentations Each week, we will first read and examine the context of the weekly letter, followed by a short discussion on the letters contents, with critical thinking questions provided by the instructor. After the letter has been explored, the instructor will present historical content related to the experiences of each soldier. The content will be discussion based, and led with the help of a powerpoint presentation that will provide visual aids, maps, and other helpful content.
