In this ongoing class, learners will engage with visuals, multi-sensory tools, ideas, and sayings to help them remember and practice the correct formation and recognition of the letters b, d, p, q, m, w, n, and more! Students will review the letter names and sounds individually with an animal action accompaniment. We will use visuals like the "thumbs-up" bed to remember which way "b" and "d" each face. Learners will learn strategies and tips on how to to correctly form and recognize the following: Week 1: We will use visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile cues to practice b and d and reduce reversals. Week 2: We will use visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile cues to practice p and q and reduce reversals. Week 3: We will use visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile cues to practice m and w and reduce reversals. Week 4: We will use visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile cues to practice n and u and reduce reversals.
I have seven years of experience as a certified teacher. Five of those years were spent with 4-7 year olds teaching reading, writing, and spelling. I am also a certified tutor with training for Orton Gillingham for learners, which highly benefits learners with dyslexia or reading challenges, many of whom struggle with letter reading reversals.
A hand-out for letter writing practice and visual worksheet will be posted before the meeting to use as a tool during and/or after each meeting.
