During this small group reading class, learners will preview a text and share their background knowledge. Learners will play teacher led games to preview vocabulary and tricky words from the text. Learners will then take turns reading the book together (2x if we have time!) and then discuss the book to demonstrate comprehension. Week of April 7 - All About Foxes by Anthony Curran Week of April 14 - Bats Day & Night by Becca Hughes Week of April 21 - Reindeer Are Real by Nigel Pepperhouse Week of April 28 - River Otters by Anthony Curran Week of May 5 - Animal Horns by Elizabeth Jane Pistilnik Week of May 12 -Animal Tongues by Harriet Rosenbloom Week of May 19 -Bees Feed Me by Anthony Curran Week of May 26 -How Do They Swim by Elizabeth Jane Pistilnik Week of September 17 -Insect Wings by Elizabeth Jane Pistilnik Week of September 24 - So Many Fish by Nigel Pepperhouse Week of October 1- Tiger Sharks by Racheal Rice Week of October 8 -Who Runs Faster? by Joe Slide This class was designed for first grade readers, but all students reading at or near this level are welcome to join. Activities will be done through screen-sharing. Learners do not need accounts for access.

Hi, I specialize in teaching reading. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a masters degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a special education certificate in special education from Brooklyn College in New York City. I have worked as a peer tutor, as a test prep tutor, and as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, helping students overcome various reading difficulties to achieve their goals. I also worked as a reading teacher and a special education teacher at a title 1 charter school in NYC. I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I recently moved from NYC to live near the ocean. My hobbies include going to the beach, traveling, playing tennis, and or course READING!評論
