In this semester long class, precocious learners come to virtual school 3X a week, listen as the Teacher reads stories by Dr. Seuss and other well known authors that teach learners the fundamentals of reading step-by-step or help improve their reading. Learners will build solid language skills, be exposed to new words, help learners begin to make meaning from the printed word, identify words from the stories we read, learn sight words repeated in stories, construct understanding from the words we read leading to comprehension of what's read. We will discuss characters, events, their order, draw, sing, chant, dance, produce sounds and movements that fit stories and use their imagination to predict what might happen next. Learn to Read: Precocious Learners Series gives learners a head start on expanding their vocabulary, building independence and self-confidence, supports learners cognitive development, improves their language skills, prepares them for academic success and cultivates a lifelong love of reading. Reading, reading, reading, one of my greatest passions. I LOVE reading! and reading to others, especially children. As a Principal and educator of 50+ years, I always read in my classroom; as Tutor, volunteer teacher around the world and as a Principal I read to both large and small groups of students at a time. Additionally, I was trained via classes at the Los Angeles Music Center on story telling methods. My love for reading began as a little girl, one who always had a book in her hand and even read under the covers at night when the lights were supposed to be out.
As a lifelong Educator, I have also written reading skill based curriculum along with other subjects for students K-12.
I LOVE reading! I'll help your learner on their reading journey and help instill that same love for reading in your learner.
