In our Learn to Play D&D class, students will learn the basics of playing the world’s biggest tabletop roleplaying game: Dungeons and Dragons. We’ll cover basic rules, character sheets, and make new friends as we embark on a short tutorial adventure. This course is a great way to get started in the roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons. - Dungeons & Dragons is a terrific way for students to have fun while developing abilities in areas such as teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, research, creative writing, and some basic arithmetic. - Additionally, the students will hone their abilities in public speaking, self-expression, and empathy through in-game interactions and play. - Lastly, the students will learn the fundamentals of Dungeons and Dragons so that they can jump right into a full campaign whenever they feel ready.
Will Guy, founder of Role to Play Games, has worked as a teacher and coach his whole professional life and has been immersed in role-playing games ever since he was a child. Not only does he have experience in the classroom, but he has also worked as a professional game master for participants ranging in age from 6-60. Our goal is for your child to leave this lesson feeling encouraged and enthusiastic, which we hope will lead to further exploration of this amazing pastime.
- A character sheet will be provided - Physical or digital dice (D20) are recommended but not required
While I will keep the content age suitable, please keep in mind that there will be monsters, battle, and otherworldly magic. In the game, characters can die (but this will not be directly depicted). I am happy to make accommodations from parents based on what they believe their child is capable of handling.
We'll be using official D&D content and the Fifth Edition (5E) ruleset.
