課堂經歷
Students will learn by listening to the presentation and watching the visual examples/demonstrations during the instructional time. Students will also have a worksheet to complete in tandem with the presentation to ensure optimal comprehension of the topic. Students are able to ask questions to the teacher, and will be given opportunities by the teacher to answer specific questions relating to the topic at hand. The class time will be structured in the format of "I do, we do, you do", to make the best of the online format. The prerequisite knowledge needed for success in understanding and retention of the concepts covered in this class are: - An understanding of vertical addition and subtraction of whole numbers & decimal numbers - An understanding of vertical multiplication and long division of whole numbers & decimal numbers - A basic understanding of decimals - An understanding of decimal place value - An understanding of the Base 10 system

Students have two documents that they need to download for the class. T 1.) A Warm Up sheet that is to help them prepare for the class. If possible, this sheet should be done before the class. We will review the sheet at the start of class, so if a student did not have time to complete it, they will be able to do it together with the class. 2.) An In-Class work-packet that the students will do together with the teacher. The work-packet works in tandem with the presentation so it is really important that this one be printed and ready to complete during the class session. 3.) Additionally students will need a pencil (preferably) or pen to write with and optional scratch paper. A calculator can be used to verify answers but is not needed.

I taught mathematics for eight years at a High School in Bermuda. I have taught Learning Support classes, regular stream classes, and honor's level classes. There are two main streams of curricula that I was privileged to teach, the U.S. subject-based curriculum and the U.K. based IGCSE curriculum.
Teaching both curricula has enabled me to have a great exposure to the different aspects of math instruction. My preference is to teach mathematics ranging from middle to high school and even some college level courses. My favorite courses to teach are Algebra 1 and 2 courses. Recently I have been teaching the Mathematics GED course to adult students.
Initially I wanted to be an Electrical Engineer and I was studying to obtain that degree in University. However, I loved the aspect of teaching and decided to pursue what I loved. I graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a B.Sc. in Mathematics and a Minor in History. Then I received a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Mathematics (M.A.T.) from Georgia State University.
Like many teachers, I follow the Gradual Release Model of 'I do, we do, you do' to allow students to feel comfortable about understanding and doing mathematics on their own. I also am an advocate of a proper blend of skill & drill problems and conceptual understanding, as both styles are essential in recalling information and solving various types of problems.
I really believe that a correct foundation in mathematics is the key to success. I believe that anyone can 'do mathematics' and my lessons are conducted to ensure that students know that too.
Recently my family and I have moved from Bermuda to my wife's hometown in California. We have four children (that we home school) and we enjoy hiking in the great outdoors.
