What will be taught:
Students learn how combining sentences can make your writing more interesting. 
Students learn the rules of combining sentences with a comma and the word "and"
Students learn that a compound sentence is a sentence that contains two sentences joined by "and"
Students will learn what is a run on sentence and how to combine the sentence. 
Students will engage in writing activities and tell how to combine each pair of sentences.
Students will have a writing challenge in writing a short story practicing sentences using the compound rules in the story. 
Discussion, slides, white board and other methods will be used in order to have the student understand the lesson. 
Work sheet will be provided for the student to practice at home with answer keys.
