In this ongoing class students will learn a new short vowel sound each week! This is a great class for students who are beginning to learn to read. They should know letter names, sounds, and be working on reading short words like bat, met, him, etc. Students will work on one word family per week. This class works best if you continue to practice those skills throughout the week! This class is designed to be highly encouraging! I want each child who takes this class to not only learn phonics, but also gain confidence and develop a love of reading! Reading can often be intimidating, so I encourage students, I never demand. My hope is that each student enjoys coming to class and learning to read, which leads them to becoming lifelong learners who enjoy being challenged. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education, two active teaching licenses in Arizona and reading and ESL endorsements. I've been teaching since 2017 and I'm working towards a master's in child and adolescent development.
My goal as your learner’s teacher is to inspire them to be lifelong learners. Learning is scary and requires a lot of vulnerability to take chances knowing you could make a mistake. I pride myself on helping students feel safe, confident, and secure in themselves. I’ve always seen tremendous growth in students when they are in an environment that allows for them to safely make mistakes and learn from them.
