Learn about the lemurs, monkeys, and apes of the world through discussion, photo slideshows, and real life stories. Find out about the scientists that study primates, learn the names for primates in local languages, listen to primate vocalizations, play games, and create primate mask crafts. This is an ongoing class and each class will be an independent lesson. A learner may join in at any week without any previous knowledge required. Study a different type of primate each week through photo presentations and bingo review games. Learners will gain an overview of the distinctive characteristics of the following primate groups, depending on the week(s) joined: great apes, lesser apes, new world and old world monkeys, and prosimians. Miss Amalia loves exploring areas of the world where primates live in the wild, and has volunteered at various primate sanctuaries. She has experience in providing primate enrichment, daily care, and conducting field work. Along with her photos she has many personal stories to share such as volunteering with orangutans in Borneo, spotting a wild aye-aye in Madagascar, mountain gorilla trekking in Uganda, working at a Thailand gibbon sanctuary, following chimpanzees for the day, or listening to proboscis monkeys at sunset. Topics covered: primates, great apes, mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans, lesser apes, gibbons, siamangs, new world monkeys, prehensile tails, primate vocalization, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, capuchins, old world monkeys, baboons, proboscis monkeys, macaques, prosimians, lemurs, tarsiers, lorises, primate conservation Each week will be independent of each other, and learners may join at any time. No prerequisite classes are required. September 18: New World Monkeys (Spider, Howler, Capuchin, Marmoset, etc.) September 25: Old World Monkeys (Baboons, Colobus, Macaques, Proboscis, etc.) October 2: Orangutans October 9: Gorillas October 16: Chimpanzees and Bonobos October 23: Lesser Apes (Gibbons and Siamangs) October 30: Lemurs November 6: Tarsiers, Lorises, Bush Babies Please note that topics will cycle back to the beginning in continuing weeks. Topics covered: primates, great apes, mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans, lesser apes, gibbons, siamangs, new world monkeys, prehensile tails, primate vocalization, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, capuchins, old world monkeys, baboons, proboscis monkeys, macaques, prosimians, lemurs, tarsiers, lorises, primate conservation

教師專業知識和證書
I am offering this class because I love learning about primates, and am enthusiastic about sharing primatology with students. I have countless personal experiences with primates in the wild that I think will help to connect learners to the concepts of primate classification. I have a minor in Anthropology and took several primatology classes in college.
