In this 4-session course, students learn about scientific research methods and the invention design process, exploring the connections between posing research questions and developing new products. The course sessions delve into projects created by kid scientists and inventors, as well as recent innovations by leading professionals. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to develop their own ideas in an Invention & Research Journal. One goal of the course is to inspire students to...
Students will learn about: - The invention and engineering development process - Scientific research methods - General guidelines for how participate in the 3M Science Challenge and the Invention Convention, with links for parents with further details if students would like to enter - Modern engineering/product design and innovation concepts, including circular economy, carbon impact analysis and zero-waste design principles
We're dedicated to introducing young students to the amazing world of quantum physics, technological innovation and design! We've been offering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) classes and creating educational materials for students of all ages for over 15 years. We're excited to share this course content with more students through Outschool.
Please bring a notebook (to use as an Invention & Science Research Journal), or blank paper, and also a pencil to class. In Week 2 of the course, please also bring Scotch tape (we’ll use that to isolate graphene from the graphite in your pencil). No other special supplies are needed for the course.
