The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to music history from the Renaissance period. We will discuss how the transition between the Medieval to the Renaissance occurred through musical notation, polyphony modal theory, musical forms, composers, musical works, and cultural history. The following is a weekly schedule of what will be covered. Learners will be expected to keep a listening journal to record their thoughts on the pieces learned in class. In the first meeting, there will be a brief introduction to classroom expectations. The first topic that will be discussed is a continuation of the Ars Nova from Music History: Medieval. We will discuss the transition to the Renaissance period in music and the development of mensural notation. There will be a listening assignment provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟐: 𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐆𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐘 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃: 𝐃𝐔𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐁𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐈𝐒
Learners will be introduced to Renaissance composers from Burgundy and England. There will be a listening assignment provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟑: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐎-𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐒: 𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐌𝐄 𝐃𝐔𝐅𝐀𝐘
Learners will be introduced to Franco-Flemish composers, in particular, Guillaume Dufay. There will be a listening assignment provided by the instructor that will involve identifying different works by Dufay. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟒: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐎-𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐒: 𝐁𝐔𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐆𝐇𝐄𝐌 
Learners will continue to develop their knowledge of Renaissance composers to include Busnois and Ockeghem. There will be an in-class discussion that will involve discussing the composition styles between Dufay, Busnois, and Ockeghem. There will be a listening assignment provided by the instructor.  

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟓: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐎-𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐇 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐒: 𝐉𝐎𝐒𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐍 𝐃𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐙
Learners will continue to develop their knowledge about Franco-Flemish composer, Josquin des Prez. There will be a listening assignment provided by the instructor.

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟔: 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄: 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐂𝐇𝐔𝐑𝐂𝐇 & 𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐂𝐇𝐔𝐑𝐂𝐇 
Learners will be introduced to music from the protestant and catholic church from the Renaissance period. The discussion will be secular and it will only be to describe the role of music in the church. Listening assignments will be provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟕: 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐑 𝐕𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂: 𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐘 
Learners will be introduced to secular vocal music from Spain and Italy from prominent composers during the Renaissance period.  Listening assignments will be provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟖: 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐑 𝐕𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐋: 𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐓, 𝐑𝐎𝐑𝐄
Learners will be introduced to secular vocal music from Italy. Listening assignments will be provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟗: 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐑 𝐕𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂: 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐃 & 𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂 Learners will continue to learn about secular vocal music in France and England. Listening assignments will be provided by the instructor. 

𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝟏𝟎: 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒 
Students will present their final project in class which will be provided by the instructor. 

Assignments will be due two days prior to the scheduled meeting to allow the instructor to provide timely feedback to the learner via the Outschool classroom. The assignments are designed to help reinforce the topics learned in each session. While it is recommended to purchase the textbook, the teacher will provide all the materials needed for the learners in this class. This course will use video examples, and assignment explanations, and will provide feedback.

Each lesson is a combination of lectures via PowerPoint, listening, and written discussion about the material covered in the lesson. Students will also be able to create and play games like Kahoot! with the instructor of the course. The teacher will also post a question of the week in the classroom to encourage class discussion that will reflect the material that they have learned. Students will complete their assignments in the form of a recording and upload them to the classroom where the instructor will provide feedback to the learner for their work. There will also be different music applications used for the course where learners and the instructor will be able to interact with one another.

She has also been a volunteer for 5 years, teaching various subjects across the country of Mexico, during her free time. She is a cat person, who cannot start her day without a cup of coffee. She loves watching films and reading classic novels.
