課堂經歷
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to music history from the Romantic period. We will discuss how the transition between the Classical and Romantic Period occurred through musical forms, composers, musical works, and cultural history. The following is a weekly schedule of what will be covered. Learners will be expected to keep a listening journal to record their thoughts on the pieces learned in class. Upon completion, the following class would be 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝 (Self-Paced) Each lesson is a combination of lectures via PowerPoint, listening, and written discussion about the material covered in the lesson. Students will also be able to create and play games like Kahoot! with the instructor of the course. The teacher will also post a question of the week in the classroom to encourage class discussion that will reflect the material that they have learned. Students will complete their assignments in the form of a recording and upload them to the classroom, where the instructor will provide feedback to the learner for their work. There will also be different music applications used for the course that will encourage interaction between learners along with the use of Quizlet, Kahoot!, and Edupuzzle.

Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of key styles and characteristics of Romantic music, focusing on genres such as piano music and opera.
Through written and analytical assignments, students will analyze the compositional techniques and innovations of Romantic composers, particularly in the context of Romantic piano and opera music.

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝
Learners will learn about Europe in the Early 19th Century and Romanticism. Lieds composed by Schumann and Schubert will be discussed in class. Learners will also be introduced to British and North American Parlour Songs.
課 2:
𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜
Learners will be introduced to programmatic music through Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique and Mendelssohn's Overtures. Other topics discussed include chamber and sacred music from the early-middle Romantic period.
課 3:
𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜
Learners will be introduced to the piano music of Mendelssohn, Schumann, Chopin, and Liszt. There will be a listening assignment provided by the instructor.

𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲
Learners will develop their knowledge of Bel Canto Opera through the works of Rossini and Bellini. Other composers that will be discussed in class include Meyerbeer and Weber.

She is an internationally known linguist, teacher, and professional musician who has taught on four continents. Her passion for service stemmed from her work as an AmeriCorps Vista Fellow.
