US Grade 6 - 9
This course introduces students to linear equations. Topics include finding the slope and intercepts, graphing, and using linear equations to model word problems. The course consists of five lessons that build on previous lessons. Lessons include a video clip to explain the concepts and demonstrate the skill the student will learn in the lesson. Practice exercises along with solutions and explanations are also provided in each lesson. Students often struggle with fundamental concepts such as working with integers, basic graphing skills, and solving one-variable equations. This course begins with an in-depth review of these skills to encourage student success.
Learning Goals
Solve equations in one variable
Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph.
Create equations that describe numbers or relationships

over 5 WeeksLesson 1:
Introduction to the Course
Welcome to the course! In lesson 1, we will complete prerequisite work to ensure you are ready to begin working with linear equations.
3 assignments
Lesson 2:
Finding the Slope
In this lesson, you will learn how coordinates (ordered pairs) can be used to find the slope, learn what does the slope mean, and how to find the slope in a linear equation.
1 assignment
21 mins of video lessons
Lesson 3:
Working with Intercepts
In this lesson, you will learn how to find the x- and y-intercepts from the graph of a linear equation and how to algebraically solve for the intercepts. You will also learn what the intercepts mean in a linear equation.
1 assignment
12 mins of video lessons
Lesson 4:
Writing Linear Equations
In this lesson, you will learn how to write linear equations in the slope-intercept form, point-slope form, and standard form. You will practice converting among the different forms of the linear equations.
