課堂經歷
Hello learners and parents! In this five week fiddle course on Irish jigs your musician will be learning all about jigs, including what makes a tune a jig and how to tell double and single jigs apart, and they will be learning several new Irish jigs each week. Here is a basic outline of the tunes planned for each week: Week one: Swallowtail Jig, Friendly Jack Week Two: Off She Goes, Planxty Irwin Week Three: Tripping Up Stairs, Smash the Window Week Four: The Road to Lizdoonvarna, The Three Drummers Week Five: The Kesh Jig, Saddle the Pony These Celtic fiddle tunes will all be taught at a later-beginner level. It’s best if your learner has been playing their instrument for a minimum of two years. Sheet music will be provided for each tune we learn, but any learners who play by ear will be accommodated as well. The sheet music and a slow recording of the tunes for that week will be posted in the classroom a week before each class so that my learners can have a chance to familiarize themselves with the tunes ahead of time. These fiddle tunes are a mixture of both double and single jigs, (which they will be learning to identify during class). Mandolin players are also welcome to join us!

I grew up on a farm in Tennessee (USA) and in addition to music I also love raising rabbits, gardening, and reading! I and my husband currently live with our five beautiful children in the state of North Carolina. I am excited to be part of the Outschool family!
Music has always been a big part of my life, starting with classical piano, which I began at age 8, taking private lessons from a professor at the University of Tennessee. Later on, in my teens, my interests shifted to strings and traditional Appalachian and Celtic music. I learned from many people, including bluegrass musician Justin Moses and as a student of Jim Wood at the Jim and Inge Wood School of Music. As a young adult, I worked as a volunteer interpreter at Cade’s Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, teaching park visitors about Appalachian music. I have played professionally for weddings and other events, in restaurant house bands, as well as at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, TN. I have led traditional music demonstrations for public school classes, in addition to teaching privately for many years.
I am passionate about introducing young people to traditional Appalachian and Celtic music and helping them perfect their skills!
I primarily teach fiddle/violin and Appalachian old-time and Celtic music, but also bluegrass, Western swing and Texas contest-style fiddle. I also play guitar, both standard and Celtic (DADGAD), piano, mandolin, recorder, penny whistle, mountain dulcimer, ukulele and Irish bouzouki.
I see each learner as a unique individual and cater my teaching approach to best suit their needs and interests.
