This is a self paced course, meaning there will be no live meetings. Rather learners will engage with the material through lectures, readings, podcasts, discussion prompts and projects at their own pace. This short introductory course will give students an eye into what international public law is, the law of human rights, humanitarian rights and international criminal law. There are no live meetings for this course. It will include power points, video lectures, audio visual aids and assignments built to ensure understanding and leveled learning. The course will provide an overview of the structure of international law, how the law interacts with the United Nations and the individual countries and will provide insight into what being an international lawyer is all about. The course will cover the basics of human rights law, how it works and doesn't work and what it is to be a human rights lawyer in the government, the UN or a non - profit organization. Next the course will turn its focus to the law of humanitarian intervention, looking at which organizations work in this area and what the responsibilities of governments are. Then, we will delve into international criminal law and gain an understanding of what a lawyer working for the UN does in terms of investigations on the ground, interviews with witnesses, putting together and trying a case at the highest levels etc. The fourth week will involve a final project designed to synthesize the materials and engage the learners in practical application of their learning. These projects will be interactive between the participants of the course as well as the teacher in order to provide important critical assessments of international law and its benefits and limitations for global citizens.

I have been a practicing international lawyer for many years. I love to inspire, and engage with, young people because I believe that the field of law can only be enhanced by attracting those who feels excited and passionate about their work. I hope to be able to give students the gift of passion for international law.
