As a teacher with a master's degree teaching social studies, world history, and US History during 15 years of K-12 education, I am ready to share with students research-based activities and strategies that will help them learn about the African American and Latinx History of the United States in a fun and effective way. This interactive direct instruction class has been designed for English speaking middle and high school students from 7th-11th grades. Students will be exposed in multiple ways as they watch a video clip, practicing the new knowledge in teacher-made-games (TMG).

When I prepare the lesson, I have in mind all these varieties of learning that will help the student to own what was learned. Students must understand the past to understand the present related to our ancestors and global perceptions. I believe that we are one great family regardless of our race, color, culture, and historical background. We are a family that is affected directly or indirectly by our past and present experiences. The “Global South” was crucial to the development of America as we know it. It is the teacher's responsibility to teach it as it happened without biases. In this class, students will learn of the notion of westward progress as exalted by widely taught formulations like “manifest destiny” and “Jacksonian democracy,” and will show how placing African American, Latinx, and Indigenous voices transform U.S. history into one of the working class. We will concentrate on the African American civil rights activists who fought Jim Crow laws and Mexican labor organizers who warred against capitalism, Black and Spanish-language newspapers, abolitionists, and Latin American revolutionaries who coalesced around movements built between people from the United States and people from Central America and the Caribbean.

My teaching style is serious and formal but relax. I am flexible and patient to accommodate the student's style of learning. Students taking this class must be proficient readers ready to move to use their critical thinking abilities to analyze, evaluate, judge, and to make proposals to today's social challenges in the United States. The following are the subjects studied during these series of classes, but are not limited to:

Week #1: Day 1: African American Names and Labels
Day 2: The Early History Of Blacks In The Americas
Week #2: Day 1: Slavery In The United States
Day 2: Free Blacks And Abolitionism
Week #3: Day 1: Latino, Hispanic, Latinx, Chicano: The History Behind the Terms
                Day 2: Hispanic Heritage
