This one-time class is all about the Bard! It's a great introduction to one of the greatest writers of all times -- and one whom students will encounter again and again as one of the most influential writers of Western civilization! Of course, it would be impossible to cover all 39 plays, 154 sonnets, and his several long narrative poems in a one-hour class! So this class will offer a "bite-size" selection of the 884,000 words Shakespeare wrote: We'll study his most famous lines, meet his most memorable characters, and learn which common words he actually invented (hint: before Shakespeare's time, there was no word for those round objects we use to see!) We'll also discuss Shakespeare's life and times and the journey that took him from Stratford-upon-Avon to the London theater scene. Finally, we will finish the class with an examination of one of his famous sonnets. This will be a fun, engaging class -- perfect for meeting William Shakespeare!
