課堂經歷
Students will be taught the basic foot and arm positions, dance movements, and they will learn steps out of the Highland Fling-the first dance that beginner dancers compete in. I have a positive teaching style-as all research shows that positive feedback and encouragement motivate dancers more than the “old school” model. During Week 1 students will learn the basic movements of the Highland Fling. In the first class, students will learn the basic positions, including 1st through fifth position of the feet and arms. They will learn the basic movements-Shedding, turning and toe-heels. During the second class of week one, the students will be introduced to the first two steps of the highland fling. During Week 2, students will continue to work on their foot placement and technique for the first two steps of the highland fling. During class 3, Students will strive to keep their shedding tight, and toe-heels tight--with pointed toes, and heels close to the supporting foot. During class 4, Students will learn the Cross-over step, and Last step to the highland fling. During week 3, The students will work on their foot placement for the cross-over step, and the last step. They will try to point their toes, and have tight shedding. During class 5, arms will start to be introduced, and added to the first two highland fling steps. During class 6, arms will be added to the last two highland fling steps. During week 4, we will work to put the entire Highland Fling Dance together. In classes 7 and 8, the dancers will work to dance all four steps together to bagpipe music, including their arms and head positions. About the teacher: Susan Tapp has been dancing for 26 years. They will need an open space to dance, with a flat, even floor to dance on- Approximately 6 feet by 6 feet. They should have a water bottle-as Scottish Highland Dance is very athletic. We will make sure to have a proper warm up and cool down.

教師專業知識和證書
Hi Everyone,
I’m Susan. I'm a Scottish Highland dance teacher. I started dancing at the age of 6. I am also a Spanish Tutor. I minored in Spanish from Alma College in Alma, MI.
I am a Scottish Highland dance teacher certified with the British Association Teachers of Dance. I began teaching at the age of 16 after passing the associates test with highly commended. I continued to take more teaching tests, until I received highly commended on my Fellows exam-the highest honor in teaching Scottish Highland dance.
I have been tutoring in Spanish for at least five years, and have had a lot of success in helping students with disabilities be successful. Because I also have a Masters in Social work and have studied Child Development/Psychology, I have a deep understanding of challenges that these students face.
I believe that it is SO important to focus on a child’s strengths, and to be positive. Children respond SO much better to positive feedback. There are so many new teaching strategies behind this, and I’m excited to use them. I always encourage children to reach their full potential and to have fun.
An interesting fact about me is that I placed 2nd at the US championships in Scottish Highland Dance when I was younger. In addition I was the Southeast Regional Champion several times, the Atlantic International Champion, The Carolinas Open Champion, and the Southern California Open Champion. I look forward to building Scottish Highland Dance classes for dancers over Outschool. I hope to eventually offer classes to all ages and levels.
I also look forward to tutoring Spanish to all ages and levels. I have tutored some students from the very beginning and taught them Spanish from the start; I have also helped middle school, high school and college students become successful in their classes.
