This class is the perfect introduction to the world of ballet! It is never too late to begin dancing! 

Our 6-week introductory ballet class is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of ballet. 

Each class will feature a combination of classical warm-up exercises, barre work, stretches, and choreography that will progress over the course. 

Students will learn the five basic positions of ballet, proper posture and alignment, practice basic turns, leaps, and other steps, and gain an understanding of the rich history of ballet through discussion of iconic ballets and figures in the ballet world.

Barre Basics
 This week we will cover the first 2 positions as the most basic steps performed at the barre. We will briefly discuss the origins and language of ballet. 

1st - Warm-up

2nd - Stretch

3rd - Barre

*Terms to cover: Plié, tendu, port de bras

4th - Creative movement/self-expression

5th - Reverence and cool-down

Grace and fluidity
 Our focus this week is on the grace and fluidity of movement in ballet! While technique is crucial, the passion in your dancing is even more important! Ballet is all about making difficult steps look easy and floaty, and communicating with your audience.

1st - Warm-up

2nd - Stretch

3rd - Barre

*Terms to cover: Relevé, Épaulement, Bourrée 

4th - Creative movement/self-expression

5th - Reverence and cool-down

Strength
 Our focus this week is on STRENGTH. Ballet requires an incredible amount of strength! Weight training and bodyweight exercises combined with barre work can help improve the quality of your jumps.

1st - Warm-up

2nd - Stretch

3rd - Barre and introduction to grand allegro

*Terms to cover: Jeté, grand battement, sauté

4th - Creative movement/self-expression

5th - Reverence and cool-down

Lines
 Our focus this week is on LINES. You may have heard people talk about a dancer’s lines. This refers to the shapes the dancer creates with their body - particularly the legs, arms, and neck/head. 

1st - Warm-up

2nd - Stretch

3rd - Barre

*Terms to cover: Passé/Retiré, Rond de jambe, Attitude
*Positions to cover: Third, fourth, and fifth positions 
 
4th - Creative movement/self-expression

5th - Reverence and cool-down

父母的引導和規範
Dancers will need an open workout space and a water bottle nearby. Footwear is not necessary - soft-sole ballet slippers can be worn, but the class can be done barefoot as well. Parents should always supervise their dancers as injuries can occur. We will warm up and stretch briefly during class, but stretching beforehand is recommended.

I have several years of experience choreographing ballet, lyrical, contemporary, and ballroom performances for children ages 2-18. I have taken ballet classes from age 3 to the present; and have taken years of ballroom, modern, lyrical, and swing dance during that time as well. I am passionate about dance and introducing it to the next generation!
