Prior experience is required. Students need to have played the saxophone for a minimum of 6 months and/or completed the Essential Elements Book 1. Beginning in the Essential Elements Book 2, we will be covering an average of 2 pages per lesson and there will be required homework each class. I will begin each lesson with review of what was taught the previous week and expect students to demonstrate an understanding of the assigned and practiced exercise(s). Students will then be introduced to...
Week 1- practice warm up # 90 as a group, play #84 or 86 independently. Pg 18 & 19 Review, E flat/ D# introduce new note high C. Homework: exercise #94, #95 and try 96 Week 2- practice #94 as a group, then #95 independently. Pg 20 & 21 introduce 6/8 time signature. Homework: exercise #100 and #106 Week 3- play 106 as a group, then #100 independently. Pg 22 & 23 introduce chromatic scale, review staccatos and crescendos Homework: #114 & 115 Week 4- play 114 as a group, then #115 independently. Pg 24 & 25 introduce triplets, high C# and high D. Homework: exercises #125 &126
I have 30+ years experience playing saxophone. I have been in concert band, marching band and jazz bands. I currently play in the orchestra at my church, and have done so for the past 11 years. I have been giving lessons on Outschool since August 2020, and enjoy watching the excitement with each new learner as he/she begins on this incredible musical journey!
