In this one time course, your child will learn an essential reading skill to aide in reading comprehension. We will discuss "Inferring" and practice the skill during the class. Students will learn what it means to make inferences, the different sentence starters they can use to infer, and how to use clues and their own schema to infer. We will have several opportunities in the class to practice making inferences and students will be given the opportunity to share their inferences. I will use a PowerPoint presentation to teach the material. I include pictures, stories, and interactive activities to develop the concept. I use both direct teaching as well as student led. My presentation includes direct instruction to present the content as well as fun activities to engage the students. Students will participate in discussion throughout the lesson in order for me to gauge their understanding and help develop it more. No previous knowledge on the topic of Inferring is required. I have taught in elementary school for 15 years and I am certified in Pre-K through 5th grade. I am very experienced and am prepared to help your child improve their reading skills! *If you do not see a time listed that works for your child, please look at my availability so we can find a time that does work!

Please bring a white board and marker OR paper and pencil to class. You may also bring a book to share. If we have time at the end of class, students may take turns reading a little from their own book so we can make more inferences!

Hello! I am so glad that you are interested in my classes! I strive to make learning fun and engaging for each student. I enjoy getting to know my students and help them grow academically.
My Background:
I have been a public school teacher at a Title I school for 15 years. My experience ranges from K-5th grade, and I have taught every academic subject: Math, Reading, ELA, Social Studies, and Science. I have worked as a homeroom teacher as well as an ESOL teacher. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Toccoa Falls College (2005 graduate) as well as a Master of Education Degree from North Georgia College & State University (2010 graduate). My Georgia teaching license is current. I have professional training in leadership, ESL Endorsement, reading and math support, and more!
I believe every child can succeed if given the right tools and positive encouragement. I have 15 years of experience working with a variety of learners from those who struggle and need a lot of patient guidance to those who excel and need a challenge! I see each learner as a precious gift and seek to provide the right support based on each child's needs. I also have homeschool experience so I can approach learning from your homeschool child's personal needs! It is a joy and blessing for me to teach!
