Most folks on Outschool know me for my military history courses, but in truth, the other side of my career is my tutoring business. I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching and I spent 18 years in the classroom in a prestigious private school. I have been tutoring learners ages 8-16 for over 15 years in English, math, social studies, writing and science. If you are looking for a friendly, understanding and compassionate educator, I might be what you are looking for to address your learner's academic needs. I have experience teaching and tutoring the following subjects and age groups: Social Studies, ages 7-18, American history, European history, World history, Military history English and grammar - ages 7-15, writing, editing, sentence structure, paragraph formation, grammar usage, 5 paragraph essays Literature - ages 7-14, book studies, genres of all types and styles Math ages 7-11, geometry, 4 operations, math facts, fractions, decimals, math sense and logic Science ages 7-11, natural history, volcanoes, earth science I have used many different resources to aid in my tutoring sessions, depending on what we are trying to accomplish. Some examples are, but not limited to: Singapore Math Warriner's English Grammar and Composition America's Past and Promise A variety of literature books depending on the grade level: Examples: Grade 5 - Shades of Gray by Carolyn Reeder Grade 6 - Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt Grade 7 - The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway Grade 8 - All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque McGraw-Hill Science: Grade 5 text

Of course, I will work closely with the parent of the learner to determine what is the best course of action to take with their student. If any subject matter is not suitable for the student, then we will mutually find a level of comfort for both the student and parent! I aim to please.
