Designed specifically for kids, this interactive and engaging course teaches practical strategies to help children understand and manage their emotions more effectively. This course covers topics such as identifying emotions, deep breathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, problem-solving strategies, and much more. My name is Indya, I am the teacher for this course. I studied hard to earn a Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Florida and am a licensed Speech Language Pathologist. Learning how to treat executive functioning disorders is a part of my training! Allow me to use my expertise in this field to support your child on their journey. Together, we'll help them overcome obstacles, build resilience, and equip them with the skills they need to succeed and thrive in life. Executive functioning skills are a set of cognitive processes that enable individuals to manage their thoughts, emotions, and actions effectively in order to achieve goals and complete tasks. These skills are critical for success in various aspects of life, including academics, work, and daily routines. Here is an outline of the course: Lesson 1: 📘 Thinking Brain and Feeling Brain Discuss the BIG problem... Engaging questions to explore thinking brain vs feeling brain Lesson 2: The science behind the thinking brain and feeling brain Where do these happen in our brain? What are the benefits of each brain? Share an example of how your feeling brain can help you. Lesson 3: The Emotion Thermometer 💨 Take 5 Breathing Exercise 😻 Gratitude practice: Share someone you are grateful for and why. 🤷♀️ Share what level on the emotion thermometer you would be in different situations. ✍️ Come up with your own situation to share with the class. 😎 Choose one student's situation and share what level on the emotion thermometer you would be. Lesson 4: 📘 Sensations from each emotion (signals from our body) Lesson 5: Coping Strategies Toolbox 😻 Gratitude practice: Share a toy or thing you are grateful for and why. ✍️ Emotion Detective: Share an example of your favorite way to calm down your body after getting upset. Share your response with the class. 😻 Read through student responses. Choose which calm down technique you want to use soon, tag that student and comment with an emoji! Lesson 6: 📘Self Management Series of Events (to better understand how our choices impact the outcome) 🤨 Riddle Time to engage critical thinking skills 🫁 Deep Breaths with the Hoberman Sphere ✍️ Answer the questions from class video lessons in the comments Lesson 7: Perspective taking (social awareness): understanding other's emotions too! Lesson 8: Mindfulness exercises Lesson 9: Identifying Positive vs Negative thoughts Lesson 10: What is emotional intelligence (all the things we learned about above) https://whatdoesmammasay.com/emotional-intelligence-activities-for-kids/#google_vignette Emotional Intelligence is defined by self-awareness (recognizing your own emotions and how they affect you), self-management (being able to manage your own emotions in a healthy way), social awareness (understanding other people’s emotions, having empathy) and relationship management (being able to develop and maintain relationships). Another great sensory activity that helps children regulate their emotions, not to mention the fun, is feelings balloon pop. Simply write or draw the feeling in the balloon and then pop it. If you don’t want to use a sharp object to pop the balloon, have the child step or sit on it until it pops.
