In this self-paced course, learners will explore civics and government by designing their own country and creating a law book. The course begins with a brief instructional video introducing each topic. Students will complete tasks in a provided workbook that combines vocabulary, reading, exercises, drawing, math, and art. Topics include types of government, lawmaking, budgeting, and infrastructure planning. The class is structured with interactive and creative activities, such as designing flags, budgeting for projects, and writing laws, to make learning engaging and hands-on. Students will work independently through the materials at their own pace, but the course includes detailed instructions and examples in the workbook to guide them. This course encourages critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. Students will develop a well-rounded understanding of how governments function while having fun imagining their own leadership roles. There is no live interaction, but learners will be guided step-by-step through videos and workbook tasks to ensure a fulfilling experience as they learn about government and civics by creating their own country.

I began my teaching journey in college through volunteering with AmeriCorps, which ignited my passion for education. After completing my M.Ed. and earning my teaching license, I taught in traditional public schools but found that the environment wasn’t the best fit for me or my child. This led me to transition into homeschooling and online teaching, where I’ve been developing writing courses for over fifteen years.
In addition to my writing instruction experience, I have taught courses with Junior Achievement and afterschool programs, focusing on similar topics covering government and civics for upper elementary and middle school learners. My classes emphasize helping students feel comfortable and confident in their writing skills while blending additional social studies topics.
