每週 2-4 小時. Assignments, which will consist of 1-3 paragraphs, will be posted each week and are due one week after they are assigned (unless otherwise noted). Checklists will be provided to remain on task and reach the hightest score possible. Resubmissions are allowed should corrections need to be made. Source texts, note posters, and other items to help remember concepts will be provided. In some cases students will need to research and bring their own sources to class to complete assignments. Several assignments will be linked to the reading of the literature, therefore the literature reading is a required portion of this course and required for success of the course. Syllabus: Intermediate IEW Writing with Medieval Historical Themes (Part 1 of 2) Course Overview: This 15-week course combines historical topics with IEW writing techniques. Each week, students will explore a historical theme, read related literature, and complete writing assignments. The course is designed to enhance writing skills through the introduction of dress-ups, sentence openers, decorations, and advanced additions. Previous IEW experience is not necessary but helpful. Required Materials: • Literature Books: o Beowulf: A New Telling by Robert Nye o Tales from Japan Retold by Hellen & William McAlpine o The Story of King Arthur and His Knights by Howard Pyle • Internet access for research • 3-ring binder • File folders Weekly Structure: • Historical Topic Discussion: Exploration of the historical theme for the week. • IEW Techniques: Introduction, explanation, and demonstration of writing techniques and assignments. • Assignments: 1-3 paragraph writing tasks posted each week, due the following week. • Literature Discussions and Quizzes: Weekly discussions and Kahoot quizzes on the assigned literature. • Writing Enhancements: Introduction of new dress-ups, sentence openers, decorations, and advanced additions. • Checklists: Provided to ensure students stay on task. • Resubmissions: Allowed for corrections. Resubmissions allowed for corrections. • Literature reading and discussion are required for the success of the course. Evaluation: • Assignments will be reviewed and feedback provided. Completion and understanding of assignments will ensure success. Active participation in discussions and quizzes is helpful.

Moving through Units 1–9 of the IEW methods, students will take notes, summarize narrative stories, write from pictures, put together a mini research report, and compose creative essays.
