Building strong fine motor skills is critical for new preschool and kindergarten students as they participate in learning activities using scissors and glue sticks. In this class we will learn finger-plays to strengthen hand muscles and build coordination, we will sing songs that teach the proper grasp of scissors, and we will practice cutting along straight, curvy, and zigzag lines as well as shapes. Students will learn about how to safely hold and use scissors. They will learn the proper grasp for holding scissors. Students will also learn how to use glue sticks. Students will engage in fine motor skills activities to strengthen hand muscles.
As a former kindergarten teacher, I have witnessed the stress and frustration that inexperienced students have using scissors in class. In building fine motor skills and learning proper scissor usage, students will enter school with confidence and will be ready to learn without unnecessary stress.
