課堂經歷
In this class we will learn how to analyze news sources to see if they are reliable or not. We will cover the S.P.O.T method, a four step process that helps to break down the information students should be able to find in a reliable source. After breaking down each step of the S.P.O.T. method, students will then go through real life examples of how to determine if a source is reliable or not in guided practice. This is a discussion based collaborative class where students will be interacting with each other. Students must have a solid background in reading for this class. The class is structured as follows: -Introduction -What is a reliable source? -Why should I care about reliable sources? -The S.P.O.T. Method (Source, Perspective, Outside sources, and Timeliness) -Application of S.P.O.T. to a real life articles -Wrap up discussion and questions

This class will not be using political articles because it is not a debate class. We will only be using articles that have been prescreened by the instructor and do not include polarized views.

Hello everyone! I'm Kaitlyn and I teach a variety of subjects but mainly English and social studies classes. I have my BA in International Studies and have spent the last few years working with middle and high school students in the classroom. I especially love topics that are wide ranging and applicable to many life things, not just things you learn because it's in the curriculum. My personal philosophy is that to understand the world around us, we have to know more than what is just going on now. We have to learn how we got here with the structures we have.
Fun fact, I spent time in Berlin, Germany and got to explore the ins and outs of the European Union, including meeting a few ambassadors! Social studies can be really fun!評論
