Nearly everyone can who can hold a pencil can learn to draw well... with lots of practice and good instruction! If you are willing to try something new and learn to "see" in a new way, your drawing abilities will improve.

This is a 4-day drawing summer camp for students who are interested in drawing realistically, know how to use a ruler, and may have joined me for a previous drawing class. In this class, students will learn to "see" as an artist, focusing on positive and negative space, details, values, and textures that others may never notice. Some of the exercises in this class are based upon Betty Edward's book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain;" these methods have served me well in teaching others to draw realistically for nearly 20 years. 

Students who join this class will learn techniques for how to accurately draw from illustrations and photos. I will provide a drawing and photo to draw from in class, but students may draw from their own drawing (Day 1) or photo (Day 2-4), but must have it ready and printed at the beginning of class. 

Each class will focus on learning a new drawing technique, each skill building on the previous day's work:
Day 1: Seeing Positive & Negatives Space-- Practicing grid drawing with a line illustration
Day 2: Setting up the grid on a photo; Create a Value Scale; Evaluating values in a photo
Day 3: Grid drawing of value contours in the photo
Day 4: Erase Grid, Make corrections, Shade 3-D Shapes in 4 tones
