Welcome to our emotions class! Your child will be exploring different types of emotions through fun interactive short stories, music, crafting, puppets, and role playing. He or she will learn how to use language for expression and social interaction with their peers. They will also create, perform, and participate in the arts. The lesson is geared for Preschool/Kindergarten age. If you have a child with special needs that would benefit from this class, but is above the age range, that is fine for he/she to enroll. We will start off with introductions. I will be assessing prior knowledge of their emotions using emojis sticks. We will then explore a PowerPoint using three short stories that propose three questions. How do they feel? How do you feel? and Why do you feel that way? The children will learn how to form sentences like The boy/girl is ___., I feel ____., and I am ___ because ____. We will practice making faces and singing a song. Children will also listen to different styles of music and decide whether or not it makes them feel happy, sad, angry, or scared. We will be making puppets that help us communicate our emotions. We will use the puppets with music and role play. We will glue the faces on the paper bags first and if there is time do the hair and bodies. They may need to finish the puppets after class depending how fast everyone moves along in class. We will also discuss what we can do when we feel sad, scared or angry. Please make sure your child has four paper bags or something similar to make a puppet, the printout of the emoji faces, glue, scissors, markers, yarn, and construction paper. Also, print the emoji faces a second time and help them glue to four popsicles sticks ahead of time. Please help your child put together the puppet if they are a younger age and need assistance. It would be great if both emoji face sheets could be cut out ahead of time to save for learning time. If you do not have a printer or paper bags/sticks you can draw a happy, sad, scared, and angry face on 4 sheets of paper to hold up. This will also work fine for class. Four socks with the faces drawn on them would also work. Our class will be 30 minutes and may run over time a little depending on how fast students make the project. I am a visual, hands on teacher who loves to laugh and have fun. I will encourage them to speak, but if they are shy, will not make them. Can't wait to see everyone!

Little ones will need help cutting with scissors and discussing their emotions. If they are not at a reading age, I will read to them.

Please print out the emotion faces twice. One for the emoji sticks and one for the puppets. You will also need 4 paper bags, markers, yarn, and scissors for the puppets. I would recommend glue sticks, so it dries faster and maybe tape for hair if it isn't sticking. We will be using the sticks at the beginning of class, so please have the emoji face sticks glued ahead of time for the beginning of class. The puppets are towards the end of the class, so we will assemble in the middle of class. If you only have liquid glue let me know in the beginning and maybe we can start by making the puppets, so there is plenty of time to dry. It would be great if you also have the 2nd set of 4 faces cut out, so we can quickly glue on the faces during learning time. The hair and drawing bodies may have to wait till after class depending how fast everyone works. If you do not have a printer, paper bags, or popsicle sticks, you can draw faces on 4 pieces of paper or socks. Very easy to switch up in the lesson.

My name is Teacher Christine and I am so excited to be part of the Outschool community to help spread a love for learning. I come to you with lots of experience in public and private schools and also with online teaching. I received an AS, BS, and Masters in Education/Special Education with a Language Arts Concentration. I have experience teaching Kindergarten for 5 years in a private school in the Dominican Republic for children all over the world. I also have substitute taught Kindergarten through 12th grade in multiple subjects in public schools. When I lived in Chile, I privately tutored three children in English using homeschooling materials for K, 4th, and 5th grade. I currently have been teaching ESL online with several companies for 3 years and also own my own preschool called Teensy Weensy ABCs & 123s Online Preschool. I also do online tutoring and am expanding to online Kindergarten and 1st grade soon.
I have a heart for teaching younger children, but also find it fun to interact with older students too. My passion is more in Language Arts, so I will be focusing on phonics, letter names, , vocabulary, sight words, grammar, reading stories, learning how to write simple stories... I do enjoy other subjects like math, science, and history, and am currently trying to design my own preschool/kindergarten age curriculum. I love cooking, baking, camping, playing games, hiking, reading books, and going on adventures, so I am sure you will be finding a variety of different classes in these topics too.
I believe in a fun, engaging, interactive environment to help others learn to their fullest. I am very adaptable with my teaching style. If a student like lots of interaction, I will make sure I am calling on them. If your child is on the shyer side, I will make sure to help them feel comfortable. Please let me know if you your child doesn’t like to be called on and I will try to incorporate them as a whole group more than individually. Sometimes I include PowerPoints and worksheets. I also use Google Slides for my ESL classes. Other times, it will be more props, singing, hands on, and movement. I also have multiple costumes and backgrounds, so you may be seeing Princess Penelope, Pirate Patty, or Cowgirl Cate at some point too.
I am married to a wonderful guy that I met in the Dominican Republic while I was teaching Kindergarten in a private school. We enjoy spending time with our three children. We have a son who is 9 and two daughters who are 7 and 4. My 4 year old loves participating in my classes and meeting new friends. We love spending time together playing games and camping. I love to sing, so feel free to sing along with me.
