In this class we will discuss the American figures, Annie Oakley and William F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody. We will cover their lives, and the times in which they lived. We will discuss the Wild West Show and why it was so popular. I will use powerpoint, film and questions and answers to teach. We will look at the Wild West Show. To be sensitive to Indigenous People, and because this class is designed for younger students, and due to time constraints, we will not attempt to share the experience of Native Americans, other than to state who was involved in the shows, and any information included in the sources below. We will also not discuss the "Indian Wars," at length, other than to state that he did fight in the war. This will be a fun and informative class about the lives of Annie Oakley, William F. Cody and the Wild West Shows..

Buffalo Bill did hunt, and fought in a war, and Annie Oakley did shoot guns. Sources are listed below in case parents wish to find out more before class. We will NOT be discussing the war at length, but focusing on their lives and the Wild West Show. Portrayals of Indigenous People in the show were not accurate, and we will point this out. Also, the negative effect in general on Indigenous People will be discussed in an age-appropriate manner. It is important to see history from different perspectives.

I have had an interest in western history since I was a child. My great-uncles worked on the shows Wagon Train and Laramie among others providing horses, wagons and stuntmen. My goal in college was to teach history. I was also a docent at the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum in themid- 1990's.
I went to college to teach Middle and High School History. I volunteered at The Autry Museum of the West in CA. 評論
