Beginner - Intermediate 等級
Learners will be joining a historical creative writing class, where each week they will be inspired by a different historical era, event or person. Each 45 minute session will begin with a mini history lesson (20-30 mins), exploring images, videos and factual information. This will be followed with a shared creative writing prompt, along with vocabulary and plot suggestions. There will be a period of quiet independent writing time, where the microphones will be off. The chat box will remain open for support where needed. If time allows, learners may have the opportunity to share a favorite sentence or short paragraph from their own writing. This will always be optional, and may not occur every session. All learners will be invited to upload and share their writing with me after the class, and I will give my response via the messaging mail in the classroom. Writing must be submitted within 5 days of the class. 📎This class will not be canceled for low-enrollment. I teach all classes, even if only 1 learner is enrolled. If your learner does not like to go ahead with 1-to-1 classes, please let me know.📎

The Suffragettes
Learners will learn about the Suffragette movement and Emmeline Pankhurst. They will consider primary sources of historical evidence, and consider how and why the Suffragettes resorted to more militant action. Learners will have the choice between different creative writing prompts.

Matthew Henson
Learners will learn about the life and achievements of the pioneering Arctic explorer Matthew Henson. We will consider the discrimination that led to him not being celebrated in the ways that he deserved and why he was formally recognized many years after his death. Learners will have the choice between different creative writing prompts.

The Great Fire of London
Learners will learn about the events leading up to the Great Fire of 1666, and how it impacted the city of London. We will consider how we can use artifacts to learn about what life was like in London at this time. Learners will have the choice between different creative writing prompts.

Learners will explore the events that led to one of the greatest tragedies of all time, considering who they think was at most fault for the sinking of the 'unsinkable ship'. Learners will have the choice between different creative writing prompts.

Many topics in history involve the discussion of death and injustice. These topics include talks of racism, sexism, and death. They will presented in an age-appropriate way, but discussions may be prompted. I believe that learners have such potential and interest when exploring topics found in history, and that they benefit from having a safe space to reflect on these themes.

Learners will be independently writing, so they should be keen and wanting to explore a creative writing class.

👋 Hi there! I'm Ms. Riot, your certified and passionate educator with a flair for innovation and a heart for student growth. Hailing from London, England, I qualified as a teacher in 2007 with my Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Primary Education and certified with my Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Here in the UK, I am certified to teach from 5-18 years old.
🌏I have taught around the world, including at a not-for-profit summer camp in New York, volunteering in Kenya and India, and completing a teaching placement in Arizona.
🏫As a classroom teacher, I developed creative classrooms where students felt safe enough to fail. My passion for reading also allowed me to develop a new career as a high school librarian, supporting teens who had not discovered that a library could be a space for them. I have also taught students English up to the age of 16 at a prestigious online school.
🖼️More recently, I have worked within the learning department in a large museum, teaching at a range of online schools and designing curriculum for education resource companies. I also deliver lectures to trainee teachers, supporting them to develop their practice.

🌈I am passionate about helping teens strengthen core skills to succeed. This can often mean applying the content and skills often covered in lower-grade levels, allowing teens to develop skills and confidence by meeting them where they are.
🌈I focus on building confidence and foundational skills in a nurturing and empowering environment. I help teens master core concepts, overcome academic challenges, and develop a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.
🌈At the heart of my teaching philosophy lies a belief that learning should be an adventure, sprinkled with curiosity. We can be serious about learning without it always being too serious.
🌈I am a teacher who welcomes all students exactly as they are. I have a lot of experience with neurodivergent children and am a neurodivergent adult myself. Cameras can be turned off if preferred (after a quick hello with the camera on).
🌈I create quite low-demand classroom experiences. I encourage and welcome participation, but am very quick to adapt to learners who are unable or unwilling to partake in an obvious and active manner. This can mean only using the chat, or even only listening.評論
