In this six week class, students will learn how to conduct their own research to write a full MLA formatted research paper while choosing the topic of their own choice. Students will work with argumentative topics and will choose from an approved list of topics (which will prove students with the opportunity to complete research on topics of their own interests while also challenging students to work with topics they might not have originally! Each week students will be introduced to different researching skills on the first day of the week while using the second day to continue their research while implementing the new skills. The teacher will provide feedback at every step and at every level. Student's needs will be met on an individual basis and students will be challenged no matter where they are in the process and no matter where their struggles. Week One, Days One and Two: - Introduction to Research and Expectations - Informational Packet Distributed and Discussed - Discussion of Topics and Choice of Topics - Choosing Good Sources - Note-Cards/Note-Taking Week Two, Days Three and Four: - Introductions and Hooks - Developing a Thesis Statement - Continued Research - Finishing Previous Skills and Activities Week Three, Days Five and Six: - MLA Citations for Sources - Setting Up a Works Cited - Continued Research - Finishing Previous Skills and Activities Week Four, Days Seven and Eight: - Writing an Introduction - In-Text Citations - Embedding Quotes - Developing Paragraphs Week Five, Days Nine and Ten: - In-Text Citations - Embedding Quotes - Developing Paragraphs - Finishing Previous Skills and Activities - Peer Reviews and Feedback (If Time Allows) Week Six, Days Eleven and Twelve: - Teacher Feedback and Editing/Reviewing - Turning in Papers for Final Feedback - Presentation of Ideas to Peers

I have taught professionally for five years in public schools but have worked for more than ten years in tutoring, mentoring, and educating students. I currently run many mini-versions and full live versions of these classes in Outschool as well and have reviews for all of them! Research is a skill that is covered at all levels in brick and mortar schools and is therefore something I have experience with quite a bit.
