This is a FLEXIBLE schedule class. There will be NO LIVE MEETINGS!!

For 5 weeks, every Tuesday and Thursday at 9AM EST a video lecture will be posted. In these lectures I will be using Power Point slides to clearly illustrate each point and will use diagrams, pictures and videos so learners can easily understand the concepts.
Learners are encouraged to take notes during the lectures. A worksheet with questions about each lecture will also be posted, that the student can return to me for feedback. 

-There will be a discussion thread where students can ask questions and discuss various aspects of the topic. 
-I will also be available to answer questions about any of the topics through messaging.

-A short assignment will be posted together with the 4th lecture

-An optional midterm and a final exam that learners can submit to me for feedback/grading will also be posted. The midterm will be posted  together with  the 5th lecture. The final exam will be posted together with the final lecture.

This  is an introductory genetics course. Students will get some background on the history of the field and will learn about basic concepts such as genes and cell division, mendelian and non-mendelian Inheritance, human pedigrees, gene linkage  and basic molecular genetics, such as DNA replication, transcription and translation.  I will draw back on my own experience as a genetics researcher.

Lecture 4: Mendelian genetics
Lecture 5: Non-mendelian genetics
Lecture 6: Human pedigrees
Lecture 7: Gene linkage
Lecture 8: DNA replication and PCR
Lecture 9: Transcription and Translation
Lecture 10: Exoerimental methods

Though there is no specific prerequisite for this class, students shoud have knowledge of basic biology and some understanding of mathematical concepts such as percentages and probability.
