Welcome to "Heroes of the Forgotten Realms: Problematic Escapades", a unique Dungeons and Dragons six-week campaign specially crafted for children aged 10-14 where students will grow and learn through experiences thoughtfully created. Prepare for an immersive journey where young adventurers will cultivate their problem-solving and collaborative skills. Throughout the class, we will delve into topics such as strategic thinking, teamwork, puzzle-solving, all while students undertake daunting quests. The class structure is designed to foster active engagement, combining interactive images and maps, diverse challenges, and dynamic discussions. Learners will interact with both the instructor and their fellow classmates, collaborating to overcome daunting conundrums, brainstorming solutions, and forging friendships. No prior experience or knowledge is necessary, as this class ignites the spirit of creativity and critical thinking while embracing the captivating world of Dungeons and Dragons. Students are encouraged to already have a character as players tend to find it more enjoyable to have a character that they themselves have customized. I am happy to meet with any student before the first session to workshop their character with them. However, if they are not able to do so, one will be provided to them at the beginning at the first session. Week 1: Shipwrecked The players start off on a deserted island after their ship was tragically destroyed by an irritated dragon. They must problem-solve their way to survival in an unforgiving environment and perhaps discover some treasure along the way. Week 2: Ancient Ruins and a Portal The students uncover some ancient ruins on the deserted island, and find something entirely unexpected in its depths. Week 3: Adventures in the Multiverse Depending on which portal they ended up discovering, they end up on one of the unforgiving or blessed planes, where they suffer from or benefit from the effects. Survival is harsher and crueler here for some, and they must figure out how to escape back to the world they know and love. Week 4: Peaceful Recreation They make their way back to their home world of Toril, and this session will be spent most on leveling up their equipment, and solving odd random quests. Week 5: Royal Affairs The King takes notice of the adventurers and invites them to be members of his court. However, as it was once said, "there is something rotten in the state of Denmark." The characters will face dilemmas relating to the acquisition of power or ensuring the welfare of the people. They will also have opportunity here to level up the equipment of their characters in preparation for a... Week 6: World at War Depending on which path the adventurers chose in the last session, they may have accidentally set off a world war, and must now choose which side of history they want to be on. The players will face their most challenging foe yet, in order to save their own skins, but also to earn the coveted title of: "Heroes of the Realms."

Dungeons and Dragons is an open-world scenario in which students may choose to battle, avoid, or even befriend monsters. If there is any concern about this, please reach out to me and I will be happy to accommodate any concerns regarding this (e.g., instead of monsters, students will only have to problem-solve in non-combat scenarios.)
We will be using several third-party tools to make the game experience more immersive and smoother for all, but none of these require account creation. There is an option on both of the websites for the student to change their display name, but this is optional, and they can use their character's name or a pseudonym, if they don't wish to use their first name. The third-party tools are:
* www.rolldicewithfriends.com. On this site, I create a private room, send the unique URL to the students, and it is a way for us to see each other's dice rolls. No account creation is required. Changing one's display name is optional. There is no option to chat, the only functionality it has is dice rolling.
* www.owlbear.app. This is a virtual tabletop which allows me to share maps with the students, to make the gameplay more immersive. No account creation is required. Changing one's display name is optional. There is no option to chat.
* dnd.wizards.com. This is an approved Outschool resource which allows students to view and edit their characters, as well as look up rules.
