In this fun and interactive flex class, students will learn how to perform a handstand. They'll also get tips on being safe while performing handstands. Handstands are a fun and important skill for students who are interested in any kind of acrobatic or cheerleading sport. In this class, we will emphasize safety first. Students should practice gymnastics in a safe environment away from breakables. Students should have a soft area like a gymnastics mat, yoga mat, and lots of pillows. If possible please provide an empty wall for students to practice handstands on. Here is what the class schedule looks like: Week 1: Students will watch a video introducing the handstand. They will then practice alongside Coach Kaz in the video. After students watch the video, students will upload a video of them doing the handstand they learned in class that day. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video. We will play an interactive game in class to see who can have the straightest legs for their first handstand. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the first video. Week 2: Students will watch a video on how to do a handstand using a wall as support. They will practice with the video, then upload a short video of them performing the handstand that they learned in class. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video. We will play an interactive game to see who can get their hands closest to the wall this week. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the video they watched for class. Week 3: Students will watch a video about how to kick their feet higher in a handstand. Students will also learn how to put their legs together in this video. Students should practice alongside the video with Coach Kaz, then upload a video of their best handstands from this class. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video for the students to continue practicing throughout the week. Our game this week will be to see who can hold their handstand the longest. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the video they watched for class. Week 4: Students will watch a video on how to walk on their hands. They will practice with the video, then upload a short video of them performing the handstand that they learned in class. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video. We will play an interactive game to see who can do the most steps in a handstand walk. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the video they watched for class. Throughout the length of the class, we will play a side game, which will be outlined in the first video for more student interaction. Coach Kaz will have office hours for students who are struggling with any part of their handstand on Fridays.
