每週 1 小時. Some outside time before the class will be required. Students will be asked to take one nature walk with parents or guardian outside before the first online class. During this walk students will be asked to print out and take along a scavenger hunt worksheet to fill out either during or after the walk. This can be done in ones back yard, local park, community garden or even a balcony garden!評估

Hands On Summer Camp: Gardening: Grades 3,4,5: Level 1 of 3 Students will meet via online classroom once a week for 6 weeks. The structure of this class is fast paced, includes shared screen prepared videos, live teaching, hands on activities, and Q and A, Students will have no outside academic homework because this is camp! However, students will keep a journal for logging in class notes such as important vocabulary, drawing what they see, diagramming and planning. Students will learn a myriad scope of all things garden related. No prerequisite knowledge needed! Some parental help or supervision will be needed. The teaching of this course will follow the IWU: I do, We do, You do method of teaching. This will look like teacher lead teaching for roughly ten minutes (prepared screen shared video or live teaching), Group work for ten minutes (collaborative in nature, brainstorm, discussions), and then Independent work (filling in worksheets, Diagramming and project construction). These classes will have three of these segments including two projects and one worksheet related piece for roughly each class. Topics covered: Planning a garden Planting a Seed Safe Food Handling both inside and out of the garden Botany Geography Parts of a Plant Life cycle of the Plant Edible parts of Plants Seed variety, dispersal and pollination Bugs, beneficial and not- Parts, Habitat and Natural Pest reduction Brief on Bees Planting with pollinators in mind Vermiculture Compost Seasons 50+ vocabulary words Students will also make 10 Hands on projects: Make a Bug Plant Parts Poster Plant a Seed Seasonal Garden Planner Make a Veggie Wrap Seed Sort and Match Seed Dissection Seed Paper Flower Dissection Pollinator House... Complete four in field studies: Soil Test Scavenger Hunt Seed and Flower Dissection... and complete a garden journal. Students after completing this course may go on to Level 2 to learn more in depth concepts in Summer Camp: Gardening: Grades 3,4,5: Level 2! Thank You all See You in Class!

Students may need help cutting, gluing, writing or may need to be observed outside during periods of this class but is at parental discretion.
In class 5 students need a worm, some dirt and a piece of fruit (such as an apple core) please have these ready before class. If you cannot find a worm please message me and we can arrange a different bug.
Students around class 6 will be asked to collect a sample of soil from their property or from purchased soil saved from class 1. This may require supervision to go outside. You will also need some dried leaves or old flower petals, dirt, grass clippings and shredded newspaper.
Students will need parents to prepare two cut plastic bottles before classes 4 (16 oz) and 6 (2 liter). The top of the bottle will need to be reused in class 6 so please do not throw it away.

A working printer is required for this camp, it does not need to be in color. Garden Journal. This can be a composition book, a homemade journal or loose leaf paper Day 1: Planting Seeds (assorted please get at least 5), soil, water, egg carton Seasonal Garden Planner (print this), markers, colored pencils, brad Food Preference Survey (print this) Scavenger Hunt (print this) Day 2: Veggie Wrap (assorted leaves,stems, roots, seeds, flowers and fruit) Plant Part Poster: poster board, markers, crayons or pencils. Day 3: Seed Sort/Match: assorted seeds saved from class 1 Seed Dissection Activity: big seed soaked overnight, plate (paper is fine), toothpick or tweezers. Seed Paper: toilet paper, glue, seeds saved from class 1. Day 4: Flower Dissection: flower and tweezers or toothpick Pollinator House: soda bottle, scissors, xacto knife or box cutter, cardboard rolls (from 4 toilet paper or 2 paper towels), pencil, tape, string Plant Lapbook (print this) Day 5: Make a Bug: pompoms, googly eyes, popsicle stick, glue, tissue paper, or other assorted items. Wormy Wonder: Jar, dirt, piece of apple, worm. Insect Crossword (print this) Day 6: DIY Composter: 1 empty two-liter soda bottle, Sharp knife, Nail, Shredded newspaper, Dirt (not potting soil, use dirt from outside), compost materials (grass clippings, vegetable scraps), small handful of dead leaves, flat dish to hold composter, spray bottle with water. Soil Test: Mason Jar, Soil from bag from class 1 or backyard This may seem like an overwhelming and extensive list, however most objects are household items, if you have any problems with sourcing these items please message me!

Will be kept strictly plant related, but talking about the different part of plant materials does mention the reproductive parts of the plant, will be labeled as the "giving" and "receiving" flowers. Because one does give the pollen and one receives it.
