Students will delve deeply into number sense in a hands-on way using physical or printable Montessori manipulatives, creating a firm mathematical foundation for numbers 1-20. Students who understand math learn to love math, and I want my students to experience math in a hands-on way where they know they can try new things, make mistakes, and learn from them. Each class begins with a routine-oriented calendar time to help build number fluency, confidence, and class relationships. Fun games, songs, and mathematical conversations help engage students and give them a natural way to apply concepts. We work with place value, addition and subtraction, skip counting, patterns, fractions, telling time to the hour, money, data and graphing, probability, geometry, and measurement. Students need to have the actual manipulatives with them (or a printable version) as we work through these together. There is a second camera used in class to show the teacher's table so that the students are guided through problems step by step, working toward independence. This class can be used for a preschool plus class or a beginner kindergarten math class. Each week of class is unique and students may stay all year or come in for the week they need. Class Restarts in Fall: September: Exploring with Montessori beads 1-9 Building a bead stair Counting within 10 October: Using a ten frame Fact families within 10 Adding on ten frame Count sets of pennies November: Explore with 2D geometry shapes and lines Count by 5s and count sets of nickels December: Continue reviewing all previous content Explore with fraction circles January: Continue reviewing all previous content Begin adding with Montessori beads Begin counting sets of pennies and nickels February: Continue reviewing all previous content Explore with 3D geometrical forms Begin adding on a ten frame March: Continue reviewing all previous content Explore with telling time Explore with teen numbers with seguin boards April: Continue reviewing all previous content Explore adding numbers using a 20 frame May: Continue reviewing all previous content Explore with surveys, data, graphing, and probability Specific plans for the first 4 weeks: Week of August 31st: Explore numbers 1-9 with Montessori beads September 7th: Building a bead stair Week of September 14th: Fact families within 5 Week of September 21st: More fact families with story problems
