This class will be based on what is often referred to as a "Sandbox". It basically means that your characters are free to explore wherever you want your characters to go, you are not tied to one storyline, or adventure plot. Your characters will make their own way in the world and explore it at their pace. If you want to hunt down kidnappers, then you can do that if you would rather checkout the witch's hut at the edge of town you can do that or forget them both and jump aboard a pirate...
The primary goal of this class is to allow the Learners to have fun with others as they build a common story in a safe fantasy setting. However, while they are engaged in the immersion of fantasy realms, using fictional characters, they will also be engaging in -Collaboration with others -Interfacing positively with peers and leaders -Giving and receiving feedback -Predicting obstacles -Interpreting humor -Self-Advocacy -The Development of Empathy -Understanding that having a plan brings better results -Understanding that actions have consequences, and determining what those consequences may be before events are placed in motion, -Opportunity for modelling behavior in a safe environment. -Self Regulation and understanding social cues in conversation -Managing excitement and stress -Coping with other people -Responding Appropriately to Frustration and many other social skills.
I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since I was 12. I have over 40 years of experience with D&D, and a host of other games. Dungeons and Dragons in many ways changed my life for the better as it fueled my imagination and drove me to seek my own adventures in life. I recently retired from a 30-year career in law enforcement and am ready to just enjoy a few of my hobbies, Dungeons and Dragons being one of my favorites I am eager to share it with a new generation. I have also struggled all my life with ADHD and Dyslexia. It is a struggle that many people without it don't understand, and it is why I have crafted this class to be inclusive of those with neurodiverse backgrounds. Dungeons and Dragons is not a compromise it is a Collaboration of people working together for common goals. I have sought further education on the topic of Neurodiversity and the therapeutic benefits of Roleplaying Games and have completed the Games to Grow Level One Training. I understand the importance of age-appropriate content. While I will discuss fictional combat and magic, rest assured that the content will be tailored to be suitable for children. I prioritize creating a safe and inclusive environment where children can explore the exciting aspects of the game without exposure to inappropriate themes. Additionally I will address the topic of character death, emphasizing the positive possibilities it presents, such as character growth, resilience, and storytelling opportunities. Our goal is to provide a balanced and enriching experience that respects both the imaginative nature of the game and well-being of our young learners. This class will use a platform based digital dice roller called "Rolling Dice with Friends". The website ask for no information from the Learner and they will enter a password protected gameroom where they are only identified to each other by the names they choose (Character Names) there is no "Chat" Aspect of this room that could allow for accidental information exchange. The room only allows for the rolling of dice and allows all player to see the dice results that someone else rolls.
