Grammar is the building block of reading, writing, and speaking, but it's a skill that often isn't emphasized until middle school. Elementary aged children can develop a strong foundation for communication by learning foundational grammar concepts early. Parts of speech are the foundation of language, and recognizing parts of speech will help students develop confidence in reading and writing. As an ESL tutor, I have taught grammar directly to students ages 3-15. As a homeschool parent, I have additional experience teaching grammar to children as young as kindergarten.
