Learners, aka Detectives and Secret Agents, will engage in a weekly sleuthing adventures. We will read detective novels, watch spy movies, study costuming techniques, learn cryptograms, and solve age appropriate mysteries. Every learner's input is valued, and I encourage learner directed topics. Our class will involve group discussion, interactive team work, sharing, and problem solving games. We will decide, weekly, as a group, which movies, books, and games we will discuss. Week of...
Students will practice and enhance the following skills: reading, communication, team building, cryptography, investigative research, writing, costuming and problem solving. We will discuss movies and books, solve puzzles, and play games.
I teach Get a Clue, a live action mystery game based on the 1940's board game, Clue, here at Outschool. I also enjoy teaching, reading, and writing mystery stories for on-line zines and young adults. I teach sewing and historical costuming, and I am currently creating a detective costume for this class. In my spare time, I set up live Clue games and escape rooms for my two daughters and their peers. My degree in Comparative Literature and Languages helps me create international spy adventures, escape rooms, and cryptograms. I have an M.Ed. in K-12 curriculum with a Special Needs strand.

Please, bring a pencil and paper to keep track of clues, cryptograms, book and movie suggestions. The old fashioned detectives always kept a pencil and a small notebook handy in their pocket to write down their ideas, inspiration, and any clues they found whilst they investigated. Happy sleuthing.

The investigations, mysteries, movies and detective novels we read are geared for learners ages 9-13. Examples of books, movies and games include: Enola Holmes, Sherlock Holmes, Encyclopedia Brown, Scooby Doo, Sherlock Gnomes, The Great Mouse Detective, Clue, Shifty Eyed Spies, Scotland Yard. Discussions and topics will not include violence, politics, or other sensitive materials. Parents and guardians are encouraged message the teacher with any questions or concerns regarding content.
We will refer to movies, books, and games that you can access at your local library or preferred on-line sources.
