課堂經歷
Do you want your little ones to speak more Cantonese? Or learn a new language? Learning more than one language can improve memory, improve performance in other academic areas, and even enhance the ability to multi-task! This is a 4-week flex class where there are NO live meetings and learners follow a "flexible schedule format", that allows learners to work at any time during each designated week and for the duration of the course. I can be reached in the Outschool classroom and will answer all questions within 24 hours. This class is learning simple conversational Cantonese. Course Outline: Week 1- Greetings and self-introduction "My name is _____", "I am ___ years old", numbers 1-10, etc Week 2- Likes and dislikes with food "What do you like to eat?", "I like ____", "I don't like ____" with food vocabulary, etc Week 3- Want and don't want "I want to play ___", "I don't want to play ___" with sports, etc Week 4- Holiday Greetings "Happy Birthday", "Merry Christmas", "Happy Chinese New Year", etc. Each week: - Learners will receive a video of me teaching the lesson that will allow learners to practice and repeat - Worksheets will be provided each week for each topic and learners will need to finish and post to the class page. I will mark and provide feedback - Worksheets will include drawings and designs and learners will post in the classroom and other learners can vote and leave comments to interact - Games and scavenger hunts will be played and learners will post photos or videos and other learners can leave comments to interact - Learners will post a video practicing words or sentences learned each week and I will provide feedback or corrections as needed - Learners will receive a certificate of participation upon completing the session *Learners can interact without any time difference by using the course page to post worksheets and videos and share them with others and me. * Classes are asynchronous. There are no live classes to meet at a specific time. Learners only need to complete the video and worksheets independently. *No prior knowledge of Cantonese is needed. Class video and materials will be in both English and Cantonese.

Hello, my name is Joanne. Nice to meet you!
I was born in Hong Kong but moved to Canada when I was six years old. Growing up, my family speaks to me in Cantonese so I'm bilingual in Cantonese and English. After graduating from the University of Toronto with an Honors Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Geography, I went back to Hong Kong to work. Working in Hong Kong for ten years has deepened my understanding of Chinese culture and language. I love both languages and use them daily with my family and friends.
I am now back in Canada and have been teaching children for over 10 years. I am a TESOL-certified online ESL teacher and currently teaching online ESL English and Cantonese to children in the US, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Korea from ages 4-13. I am also teaching Korean adults. I also have a ten-year-old son and we love to read, play in the park, and explore new places.
I believe you will learn more and be better at it when you are enjoying what you are doing. I love to make my students smile and laugh. I will use my bilingual skills and my experience with children to help each student to learn their best. My classes are fun, engaging, and educational. I am very patient with children and like to encourage them. We will sing and play games. It will be a fun class and I can't wait to see your child!
