Use it or Lose it! 😲 Each week we will read e-books, watch a fun cartoon and cover different topics: animals, traditions, countries, food, activities, traveling, action verbs, etc. I try to speak 95% of the class in Spanish and 5% in English just to clarify some concepts and help all students to put their ideas together and speak Spanish in full sentences. 👉Not sure if this is the right level for your student❓ Take the Assessment Test: https://outschool.com/classes/fun-spanish-assessment-for-all-levels-e2K3DuBB?usid=yVPxGJf0&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link During the readings, all students will take turns so they can practice their pronunciation and reading skills in Spanish. Also, we have class discussion and look for new vocabulary. All students are encouraged to discuss any fun facts, or any personal experience they had and its related to the class' topic. This interaction helps students to reinforce their abilities of comprehension and identification of new vocabulary in Spanish. If requested, we use the last 5 minutes of the class for a Sharing Activity. Students can share an object or experience they had during the week. Hola Niños! My name is Jackie. I was born and raised in Perú. Now, I live in Virginia with my family. I hold a B.S. in HR Management and I'm a Certified Interpreter/Translator for the Winchester Public Schools and local hospital. In addition, I'm TEFL certified and I have been a Spanish Teacher since 2004. My first experience as a teacher was in a regular classroom setting but since 2016, I have become a Virtual Spanish Instructor. At the beginning they can be very hesitant but little by little, I help them build their confidence and speak in full sentences. My teaching philosophy is learning while having FUN and presenting the material in small pieces. I keep my classes small (1-8 students max.) and we do a lot repetition. My goal is for students to internalize the vocabulary so they can use it in their daily routines.
In addition, as an experienced Spanish Teacher, I follow the TPRS Method (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). TPRS lessons are a mixture of reading, storytelling, activities, games and repetition. This methodology motivates and prepares my students to trust themselves speaking, reading and understanding a foreign language. I use a lot of visual aids during the class so everyone can follow the sessions.
