Writing Your Book: During these ongoing sessions young authors will get help with the publishing process. This includes editing and getting feedback on their manuscripts. Learners will get feedback on their short stories and book projects. Learners are also invited to get advice on the best and most economical ways to self-publish a quality book. The self-publishing process will be explained in an easy step-by-step process. Economical publishing options will be discussed. Marketing suggestions will also be given. More importantly, students can ask questions no matter where they are in the self-publishing process from idea to finished book. The self-publishing process will be reviewed as well as the explaining the difference between traditional publishing and self-publishing. The self-publishing process will be presented in a clear easy way such that students will be able to act on what they learn immediately. Copyright, formatting books, cover design, editing and royalty payment will be some key areas students will receive guidance in this class. Students will learn how to easily and efficiently self-publish their fiction, nonfiction, poetry and children's books. Individual topics covered may include: • How to correct plot holes • How to build believable characters • Maintaining the correct word count • How to self-edit your text • How to write in the correct voice for the genre • How to find the right publication for your book and/or short story • How to determine your genre • How to correct literary mistakes • How to write in the correct POV • How to research for your story • How to write for your audience The course was written and is overseen by Cheryl Carter, a prolific author who has assisted numerous young people with the self-publishing process. She is the CEO of an educational publisher 'Collegiate Learning". When she isn't teaching online, she writes fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

Cheryl Carter, the writing coach, endearingly known as Professor Cheryl, for the way she methodically targets the stop-blocks that prohibit her clients from moving them ahead in completing their writing projects. Over the years, she has worked with authors writing educational, religion, science, business, and popular culture books. Professor Cheryl knows how to motivate emerging writers to overcome procrastination, literary lags and time constraints. She is the author of an ever-growing number of titles and has been published traditionally and independently.
Professor Cheryl is also a college professor, who currently teaches English and writing classes. She also teaches creative writing, media and culturally relevant biography classes on Outschool.com. Professor Cheryl has an MFA in Creative Writing and a BA in English. She has also completed graduate study in special education, college admissions and counseling, and is currently a creative writing doctoral student. Professor Cheryl holds a graduate certificate in College Advisement from Columbia University
A fierce advocate for education empowerment, Professor Cheryl is also the CEO of Collegiate Learning, an academic company that prepares learners for scholastic college success. Additionally, Professor Cheryl, a personal historian created the innovative personal history initiative, Family-as-Biographers.
