Class Description: "Flying Through Naval Aviation" Welcome to Flying Through Naval Aviation, an engaging online, self-paced course designed to introduce students to the fascinating world of naval aviation. Throughout the course, learners will explore the key milestones in naval aviation history, influential aviators, technological advancements in aircraft, and the role of naval aviation in shaping military operations. With a mix of informative materials, video clips, assignments, and historical analysis, students will gain a deep understanding of naval aviation's impact. What will be taught? In this course, students will learn about the origins of naval aviation, its development through the years, the role of pioneers and aviators, the evolution of naval aircraft, and the significance of NAS Pensacola. We will also explore the contributions of diverse aviators and the modern-day importance of naval aviation. What topics will you cover? - History and milestones of naval aviation - Development and formation of the U.S. Navy's aviation branch - Key figures in naval aviation history - Evolution and technological advancements in naval aircraft - The significance of NAS Pensacola as the cradle of naval aviation - Diversity in naval aviation and breaking barriers - The current and future role of naval aviation in military operations How is your class structured? The course is divided into 8 self-paced modules, each covering a different aspect of naval aviation. Each module contains a fact sheet, a required video, research and review assignments, and interactive tasks like creating timelines or writing essays. Learners will analyze historical photos and engage in various assignments to deepen their understanding. Every module includes an optional extra credit assignment to further enrich the learning experience. How will you teach? I will guide you through each module with detailed fact sheets, instructional videos, and research prompts. You’ll engage with multimedia content, complete interactive activities, and have opportunities to reflect on your learning through essays, reports, and presentations. All materials are accessible at your own pace, allowing you to revisit content as needed. What's your teaching style? I take a student-centered approach, focusing on making learning interactive and accessible. Expect clear explanations, engaging visuals, and real-world examples that tie history to present-day naval aviation. My teaching style encourages independent learning while providing ongoing support and feedback throughout the course. How much will learners get to interact with you? While the course is self-paced, you’ll have opportunities to interact with me through the course platform. I’ll provide personalized feedback on assignments, answer questions, and engage with you through discussion prompts. You’ll also receive guidance and feedback on major assignments like research papers and presentations. This ensures that despite the flexibility of self-paced learning, you’ll still have the support and interaction needed for success.
